Chidambaram tweets from jail, says he is ‘amazed’ while interacting with the poor

Former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram is in Tihar jail under judicial custody. Chidambaram has been active on social media sites like Twitter and he tweeted, "I am deeply concerned about the economy. The poor are the worst affected. Lower incomes, fewer jobs, less trade and lower investment affect the poor and the middle class". J&K DGP: No fresh local recruitment in terror groups

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Dilbag Singh today said there have been no reports of any fresh recruitment of local youth joining terror groups, and normalcy is returning to Kashmir Valley. He said there are some reports of infiltration and "we recently saw two Pakistani terrorists apprehended by the Army in Gulmarg sector". On the prevailing situation in the Valley, the police chief said, "Life is returning towards normalcy and people are going about their activities with school and offices open." Congress targets Sitharaman over auto sale fall comment, seeks apology

The Congress has criticised Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman over her statement on auto sales slowdown. Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi, stated, "The gross overstatement made by the Finance Minister is a grave joke on the poor state of the economy. The statement made by the Finance Minister reflects the inefficiency, immunity, and inexperience of the BJP in governance". Singhvi further said that ask her to self-expunge the remark and to apologise to the nation. Earlier, Sitharaman stated, "The automobile and components industry has been affected by BS6 and the mindsets of millennial, who now prefer to have Ola and Uber rather than committing to buying an automobile". Kashmiri leaders can challenge their detention in court, no one charged with criminal offence: NSA Ajit Doval

National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, while briefing media on the ground situation in Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 and subsequent lockdown, stated, "We are determined to protect the life of Kashmiris from Pakistani terrorists even if we have to impose restrictions, terror is the only instrument Pakistan has to create unrest". Commenting on the detention of political leaders in Kashmir, Doval added, "None of them have been charged with criminal offence or sedition. They are in preventive custody till environment is created for democracy to function, which I believe may happen soon". He further added that everything has been done according to the law, the detained political leaders can challenge their detention in court. Earlier, several mainstream leaders of Kashmir, including People's Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, have been placed under preventive detention since the abrogation of Article 370 (August 5, 2019).
