Akhilesh Yadav slams Centre over hefty traffic fines

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav slammed the Centre for imposing increased penalties under the Motor Vehicle Act 2019. Yadav on his Twitter handle stated, "The new rule of challans implemented by the BJP ruled state govt's are anti-people and oppressive. The BJP implemented this act only in those places where it can challenge the decisive leadership and can take strict action". Yadav added that it is a beginning among BJP leaders to oppose excessive centralisation. Earlier, the Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari stated that hefty fines were not imposed to generate revenue for the govt but to save the lives of the people. Src: https://bit.ly/2lPMHac

Urmila Matondkar resigns from Congress

In yet another blow to the Congress, Bollywood actor-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar on Tuesday resigned from the party. Her decision to resign from the Congress comes merely five months after she joined the party in March ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Citing petty politics as the reason, Urmila Matondkar said her political and social sensibilities refuse to allow vested interests in the party to use her for petty fights in-house politics.
