Bihar: Abandoning elderly parents will now be punished with a jail term

Bihar Cabinet-led by CM Nitish Kumar has approved a proposal to punish sons and daughters who abandon their elderly parents with a jail term. The Bihar social welfare department has provisions for punishments which could go up to imprisonment if wards do not look after their parents properly in their old ages. The cases against the wards will be registered under the non-bail able section in Bihar after receiving complaints from the elderly parents. Various decisions were also taken during the cabinet meeting.

Will never compromise on its principles; alliance with BJP to continue: Nitish Kumar

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, in an interview, said, "We will never compromise with our values and principles, during and before elections. Our focus is on developing Bihar. We are focused on helping the nation through developing our state. After elections, the pace of work will increase as many leaders who were engaged in campaigning during elections will resume work". Kumar further said, "Bihar's interests will be protected. Not getting a seat at the centre will not hamper the process to develop the state. With the BJP, we have finalised many projects. The NITI Aayog meeting will be held in a few days and will put our demands for the benefit of the state".

Amid rift between JD(U) and BJP, Nitish Kumar offers single cabinet berth to BJP in Bihar

Bihar CM, Nitish Kumar stated that there is no rift between JD(U) and BJP. The question of strained relationship raised after Nitish Kumar offered just a single seat to BJP in his expansion of Bihar Cabinet. In an interview with the private media, Nitish said, "BJP leaders were not keen to name a person to fill the vacant seat...In the state cabinet, there were eight vacancies from the JD(U) quota. JD(U) not to be a part of Modi's new Cabinet, not a big issue: Nitish Kumar

JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar said, "BJP wanted only one person from JD(U) in the Cabinet, so it would have been just symbolic participation. We informed them that we do not need it". Kumar further said, "It is not a big issue. We are fully in the NDA and not upset at all. We are working together and there is no confusion". JD(U) won 16 seats in Bihar in the recently LS elections, while BJP captured 17.
