Punjab to release 550 prisoners as humanitarian gesture on Guru Nanak's birth anniversary

Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh has announced his govt's decision to release 550 prisoners as a humanitarian gesture on 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. Singh also thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for accepting the state govt's proposal to grant remission to nine Sikh prisoners across the country and appreciated the Centre's decision to accept the state's plea for the release of TADA prisoners who had completed their sentence and whose release wasn't perceived to be prejudicial to the pease and security of Punjab or the country. He added that these prisoners had served their time and were now old men who deserved the chance to be reunited with their families and spend the remaining time of their lives with their kin. These men are no danger to society in any way. Src: https://bit.ly/2m3BNxZ

PM Modi urges people to share surplus sweets and gifts with deprived section of society on festival

PM Narendra Modi, in his 57th episode of monthly radio address 'Mann Ki Baat' said, "On one hand, when we experience the 'Delivery In' of sweets and gifts, let us think for a movement on the process of 'Delivery out'. At least in our homes, items that are in excess and thus, not required anymore, could be allocated for 'Delivery out'". Modi further said, "My dear countrymen, with the advent of Navratri today, the air is bound to be full of new hopes, new energy, newest zest, and newer resolves, once again. After all, it's the festival season. During festivals, families come together. Homes will be filled with joy! But many people around us remain deprived of these celebrations". He added that the joy which people would get out of sharing things will benefit them and help them in truly enjoying the festivals in its truest sense. Src: https://bit.ly/2nAIA2q

Check Aadhar Card during entry: Bajrang Dal to Garba, Dandiya organisers

In Telangana's Hyderabad city, the Bajrang Dal has urged all Garba and Dandiya organisers to make Aadhar Card mandatory at entry points of the events to identify people of non-Hindu communities. Bajrang Dal, Media convener, S Kailash stated, "We have asked the event organisers to mandate Aadhar Cards at the entry spot to identify non-Hindus entering the venues and also to avoid employing non-Hindus as bouncers for these events". Kailash further said that for the last few years the Bajrang Dal has been observing that groups of youth of non-Hindu communities had been entering these events and since they have no concern and respect towards the divinity of the event, they are often seen misbehaving with the women participating in Garba and Dandiya. They also manhandle the men who come to the rescue of the victim. "Teams of Bajrang Dal karyakartas will be present at the venues and if any such case is reported, immediate action would be taken to stop the miscreants from entering the venues which might lead to the disruption of the whole event", he added. Tripura: High Court's ban on animal sacrifice in temples draws mixed response

The Tripura High Court (HC) has ordered to ban the tradition of animal sacrifice in temples in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by a retired judge, Subhash Bhattacharjee. Court's Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjoy Karol and Arindam Load gave the verdict, "No person including the state shall be allowed to sacrifice any animal/bird within the precincts of any one of the temples within the state". As per media reports, some people have welcomed the judgment and some raised questions over the issue. Former state Congress president, Kishor Manikya Debbarman, welcomed the judgment but viewed that the HC has overruled the provision of the merger agreement that was signed between Maharani Kanchan Prabha Devi and the Governor-General of India on October 15, 1949. According to Bhattacharjee, the practice of animal/birds sacrifice in temples had been very disturbing and makes unholy the place of God with bloodshed, therefore such a judgment should be welcomed.
