ECI recognises JDU as state party in Arunachal Pradesh

The Election Commission of India granted recognition to Janata Dal (United) as a state party in Arunachal Pradesh. The EC has allotted the symbol 'arrow' as a reserved symbol for the party in the state. Recently, in the Arunachal Pradesh polls, JDU won seven seats out of 60 and finished second in the tally the BJP, which obtained 41 seats.

Election schedule for J&K Assembly Elections after Amarnath Yatra

The Election Commission has scheduled assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir after Amarnath Yatra. In a statement released by EC over assembly elections, read, "Election Commission, under Article 324 of the Constitution and other extant/rules etc. have unanimously decided that holding of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir shall be considered later this year". The statement added, "On regularly and on a real-time basis, the Commission will keep monitoring the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, taking inputs from all necessary quarters and after the conclusion of Amarnath Yatra, it will announce the election schedule for the conduct of Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir".

Election Commission lifted Model Code of Conduct with immediate effect.

The code bars, the party is power from using machinery to further its political interests. The poll panel uses the model code of conduct to pull up politicians who are either found guilty of threatening voters or using religion and bribe to seek votes. To ban some politicians from campaigning for a few days, the election watchdog used its constitutional powers. It cited the disruption of level-playing field to ban biopics on politicians, including one on PM Narendra Modi, till election process was over.

EC won’t disclose dissenting opinion in MCC cases to public

Election Commission with a majority of 2-1 in the meeting, decided not to disclose the details of dissenting opinions to the public in cases related to violation of Model Code of Conduct. EC said dissents will remain as a part of the official record but won't be made public as MCC violation cases are not quasi-judicial in nature.
