Smriti Irani thanks Nirmala Sitharaman for task force on Maternal Mortality

Union Minister Smriti Irani, in the Lok Sabha, thanked Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for envisioning setting up a task force to check Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in the country. Irani stated that in India, approx 22% of women face the issue of maternal mortality as they are married at a young age and have to bear children. In an interview, Nirbhaya case convicts’ lawyer AP Singh claimed that asking what the girl was doing with the boy so late at night is a part of evidence and that he wasn’t saying they had a brother-sister relationship or they were out to celebrate 'rakhi' but they were friends. He also said that in their society, boyfriend-girlfriend relation must be laudable, but not in the culture he comes from. 1993 Mumbai blast accused Moosa Halari Manuf Abdul Majid arrested from Airport

The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested Moosa Halari Munaf Abdul Majid, who is a suspect in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case and is also listed on India's 50 most wanted list of terrorists. According to Gujarat ATS, Majid was arrested from Mumbai International Airport on January 2 for his involvement in a drug bust in which 35 kg of heroin worth INR 175 Cr was seized off the coast of Mandvi in Gujarat. SC adjourns hearing in plea against Delhi HC order in 2016 JNU sedition case

In a petition filed against the Delhi High Court order, the Supreme Court (SC) has adjourned the hearing, refusing to pass any order for approval by the Delhi State of NCT for trial in the 2016 JNU sedition case. The matter has been adjourned for a week by a bench of the Apex Court, headed by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde. Petitioner Shashank Deo has sought guidance from the respondents, including the GNCT, Delhi, to issue guidelines for prompt prosecution in all sensitive criminal and corruption-related cases where the charges are serious in nature and have widespread deterrent repercussions on the society.
