Uttar Pradesh: Debate Over Govt. Decision to Add 17 OBC Castes in Scheduled Castes List

The UP government's decision of including 17 castes under the Other Backward Class (OBC) category to the list of Scheduled Castes (SCs), has been declared illegal by the Union social justice and empowerment ministry. It is the nodal ministry for issues related to SCs, STs, and OBCs. It is yet to discuss the issue with the state government as it did not follow the process laid down by the law. The state government’s move was seen as an attempt to create more opportunities for those communities, which have been excluded from OBC quotas. Src-https://bit.ly/2XjrPtD
