SC to Maharashtra Government: Maratha reservation is not backward looking

The Supreme Court on Friday said that the Maharashtra government’s order giving reservation to the Maratha community will not be retrospective even while issuing a notice to the state government. The government had notified the reservation policy to ensure forward-looking constitutional validity since 2014. The Bombay High Court has upheld the reservation given to the Maratha community but brought down the percent of reservations from 16% to 12-13%. All actions taken with respect to the High Court order will depend on the outcome of the Supreme Court. Src: https://bit.ly/2JxgAWb
