The Rural Development Ministry plans to pump in INR 20K Cr. into rural economy

The BJP Government plans to pump in about INR 20K Cr. into the rural economy through welfare programmes amid reports of consumption which are to be approved by the Parliament in the upcoming winter session. The plan to pump more money for rural development is deemed necessary when India’s economic growth has slowed for five consecutive quarters, hitting an over six-year low of 6% in the three months ended June with households tightening their spending. The money is planned to be spent on the rural job programme: the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
