Decline in 79% Indian birds, 101 species under high conservation concern: Report

According to the State of India's Birds Report 2020, there has been a decline in the population of 79% of Indian species of birds as per the assessment of current trends, but there is also some good news as the number of India’s national bird peacock has shown a dramatic rise. The number of house sparrows has also remained "roughly stable" across the country. India, World Bank signs USD 450 million loan agreement to improve groundwater management

The Indian govt and the World Bank have signed a USD 450 million loan agreement to assist Atal Bhujal Yojana (ABHY), a national program for enhancing groundwater management to arrest the depleting groundwater levels in the country and improve groundwater institutions. The programme will be introduced and cover 78 districts in the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Haryana, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. According to an official release, these states have been selected based on several criteria including the degree of groundwater exploitation and degradation, established legal and regulatory instruments, institutional readiness and experience in implementing groundwater management initiatives. Bhuj hostel case: Court remands principal, others to 2-day police custody

A court in Gujarat's Kutch has sent four persons, including the Principal, coordinator, supervisor, and a lady peon of the Institute to two-days police custody regarding the incident at Shahajanand Girls Institute where girls were made to remove their underwear to check whether or not they were menstruating. Yesterday, the police arrested the accused and presented then in court. Earlier, the National Commission for Women (NCW) had stated that the trustee of the Institute will give a written commitment to abolish such a discriminatory practice. Src: https://bit.ly/38DYdZz

Coronavirus Onset: 7 Maldivians ready to go back home after quarantine ends

Seven Maldivian nationals evacuated from China's Coronavirus-hit city of Wuhan were discharged yesterday from the Indo-Tibetian Border Police (ITBP) quarantine facility in Delhi's Chhawla. Today, as their test result came negative for Coronavirus, all seven Maldivians will be leaving for their homelands. Along with 323 Indians, the seven Maldivians had arrived in India on a special Air India flight which was sent to China as part of an evacuation operation undertaken by the Indian govt.
