Telangana govt to cut salary of govt employees to tackle financial crisis

The Telangana government announced drastic pay cuts for all its govt employees, bureaucrats and public representatives to tackle financial position of the state amid coronavirus that has affected 77 people so far. The range of pay cuts lie from a minimum of 10 per cent to a maximum of 75 per cent. The decision was taken in a high-level meeting convened by CM K. India records 227 Covid-19 cases, sharpest rise so far

In the last 24 hours, India has registered new 227 cases, totalling to 1,251 cases so far and 32 deaths. The biggest increase in cases were witnessed in Delhi after 25 new cases were reported yesterday, totalling it to 97. Five patients in the state have recovered while two have died so far. Migrants are panic stricken, don't know what they are guaranteed: Abhijit Banerjee

Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee, in an interview with private media said that the migrants are leaving cities to return to their villages because they are panicked and do not know what they have to do when the country is under a lockdown in view of coronavirus pandemic. Abhijit Banerjee said no wonder why there is a desperation among migrants in India to go to their villages, the economic pressures on them is obvious. "At home, they all might have some land and other resources to survive. A lot of these people, they send money home so, they don't really have much to fall back on. Construction sites provide them a place to stay and now that they are closed, I don't know where they are going to stay," he added. Rumours on extension of lockdown is baseless: Centre

The Cabinet Secretary today briefed that rumours of extending 21 days lockdown amid coronavirus is false. There were reports by various media houses that 21 days lockdown is to check on the speed of the spread, and it is likely to be extended by govt. But Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba denied such reports this morning. "I'm surprised to see such reports, there is no such plan of extending the lockdown," he said.
