India has been ranked 112th in the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Index 2020, out of the 153 countries across the world. the Global Gender Gap Index measures the stretch of gender-based gaps in four verticals that are economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, health and survival, and political empowerment and tracking progress towards closing these gaps over time. 6 Sri Lankan refugees detained in Tamil Nadu's Rameshwaram

In Tamil Nadu's Rameshwaram district, the Q Branch of Tamil Nadu police has detained six Sri Lanka refugees, including a child while they were trying to escape to their native country. As per media reports, the refugees were detained near the Kothandaramaswamy Temple in Rameshwaram while waiting for a boat to take them back to Sri Lanka. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, during a rally against the CAA and NRC in Jadavpur district, accused the ruling BJP of passing Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) without consultation in the Parliament and stated that "Our slogan is 'No CAB, No NRC in Bengal'". Banerjee further condemned the violence that erupted in Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), alleging that innocent students who were brutally tortured by the police was intolerable. SC declines to initiate judicial probe of CAA protest, says "go to courts below first"

Supreme Court informed that they will not entertain a plea seeking judicial investigation of Police's violent action on the protesting students of Jamia and AMU over CAA. Chief Justice of India S.A Bobde explained that by comparing with a recent Telangana encounter and stated that in this case there are different jurisdictions and before coming to Supreme Court they should go to High Court first.
