US court refuses to nullify work permits for H-1B visa workers' spouses

A US court has refused to strike down, an Obama-era rule temporarily that allowed spouses of H-1B visa holders to work in America which gave temporary relief to thousands of Indians living in America. A three-judge bench of the US Courts of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on Friday sent the case back to a lower court noting that it is "best to remand" to give the district court an opportunity to thoroughly assess and finally determine the merits in the first instance. In the latest protest against rigid rules over women’s appearance, #glassesareforbidden was trending on Twitter in reaction to a Japanese television show that exposed businesses that had imposed bans on female staff. Kanae Doi, the Japan director at Human Rights Watch said that because the rules only prohibit women to wear glasses, the discrimination is against women. Earlier this year there was a call for Japanese companies to stop forcing female staff to wear high heels. More than 21,000 people had signed an online petition started by a female actor in what has become to be known as the #KuToo movement. Src: https://bit.ly/2pXitnV

Zimbabwe on Friday fired more than 200 public sector doctors who have been on strike for more than two months demanding better pay to protect them from soaring inflation. The Health Service Board said that it had conducted hearings for 213 doctors and 211 were found guilty of being absent from work without proper cause due to which they were dismissed. The board plans to call in 516 of the government’s 1,601 doctors for disciplinary hearings. Zimbabweans are bearing the brunt of the worst economic crisis in a decade, with shortages of foreign currency, fuel, power, and medicines. Src: https://reut.rs/2NXCVNp
