Lockdown likely to extend, PM Modi suggests at all party leader meeting

During video meeting with leaders of all parties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested that the lockdown to check the spread of coronavirus will be extended. He further said that the situation in the country is akin to a 'social emergency', it has necessitated tough decisions and government must continue to remain vigilant. India records 575 new cases on Friday, sharpest spike

As per the ICMR, India on Friday reported its single-largest daily spike in coronavirus cases with 575 people testing positive across the country, taking the total count to over 2,600. The new cases were reported from Maharashtra, Telangana, and Delhi, government officials said the numbers have risen in last few days majorly due to the Tablighi Jamaat event that took place in the Delhi earlier in March and attended by over 2000 people. Tablighi Jamaat will become an excuse for people to vilify Muslims: Omar Abdullah

In a recent tweet by National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, he said people who are tweeting stuff about Tablighi Jamaat are more dangerous than coronavirus. In another tweet he said, "it will become a convenient excuse for some to vilify Muslims everywhere as if we created & spread #COVID around the world". Omar also defended their carelessness by saying the Clerics followed the guidelines laid by the govt. Ninety-one people who attended the event at Delhi's Nizamuddin from March 1-15 have tested positive for the virus. Seven people have died because of the disease contracted at the function. Govt to SC, ‘Migration has to be stopped’ amid COVID-19 scare

The central government recently told the Supreme Court that the exodus of migrant workers from the cities to their hometowns will have to be stopped to ensure that it does not aggravate the threat posed by the coronavirus disease. The petition filed by advocates Rashmi Bansal and Anuj Gupta cited the possibility that many of the migrant workers may have been infected by the virus and became carriers of the disease.
