Army Chief General Bipin Rawat fights against misuse of disability pension

Indian Army chief General Bipin Rawat is on the road to fight against the misuse of the disability pension to ensure that none of his officers with a genuine physical disability are cheated out of their dues. An analysis ordered by Gen. Rawat revealed that most officers had claimed disabilities for non-physical injuries. The biggest beneficiaries of the pension were officers as opposed to soldiers. Close to 20% of the Indian Army is disabled and the numbers are set to grow daily, thus, General Rawat has called for disallowing tax exemption on the disability pension. Src:https://bit.ly/2Yp1hHf

On claims of being responsible for the Congress-JD(S) alliance meltdown, Siddaramaiah denies involvement

Karnataka MLA Shivaram Hebbar (one of the 15 rebel lawmaker who resigned their position) asserted that sections of the two former alliance partners were unhappy with the Congress leader Siddaramaiah's role in suppressing the rebellion that ultimately toppled the 14-month government. He further claimed that Siddaramaiah was 'the one who was behind us'. Reacting to Hebbar's statement Siddaramaiah tweeted that this is only a bogus allegation with the wrong intention and he will give a befitting answer to the rebels if they repeat the same before him. Siddaramaiah further blamed the rebel MLAs for attempting to move the fault on to him. Src: https://bit.ly/30YshuS

Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Triple Talaq bill: Must for gender equality, justice

Lok Sabha on Thursday brought the triple talaq bill into consideration, to make the practice of instant triple talaq illegal with up to three years in jail. Law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the legislation is a must for gender equality and justice as women were still being divorced, despite an August 2017 Supreme Court verdict negating the practice of instant triple talaq. The ban on ‘triple talaq’ has been enforced thrice previously by the Narendra Modi government, but they were rejected by the previous Lok Sabha. The bill makes triple talaq a “non-bailable” offense.
