Japanese PM Shinzo Abe urges China to set Hong Kong free & open

Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, in a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Monday, said that Hong Kong should ‘continue to be free and open’. Through his spokesperson, Abe further urged China ‘to continue its self-restraint over Hong Kong and expressed hope for an early resolution of the situation.’ Hong Kong has been conducting pro-democracy protests for more than 6 months now. Abe had met Chinese President Xi before flying to the southwestern city of Chengdu to join a trilateral meeting Tuesday, which will also be attended by South Korean President Moon Jae-in. FATF sends Pak a 150-questions list to seek clarification on its action against madrassas

Paris-based global watchdog group against terror funding the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has sent a 150-questions list to grey listed Pakistan to seek clarifications and data on its measures against the madrassas which belong to the banned terror outfits such as Jamat-ud-Dawa which is led by the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed and others operating in the territory of Pakistan. Current President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani wins presidential polls again

Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani won the presidential elections in Afghanistan for consecutive 2nd time. He received 50.64% preliminary votes but it is not mandatory that he will become the president as his opponents can still challenge the results as said by the Election Commission of the country. The elections were conducted in the month of September but the results have been repeatedly delayed amid accusations of misconduct and technical problems with counting ballots. Cuba appoints Manuel Marrero Cruz as country’s first PM after decades

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Saturday named tourism minister Manuel Marrero Cruz as the country’s first PM in decades, under a new constitution that seeks to decentralize former leader Fidel Castro’s job. He has served as the Tourism Minister for the country for 16 years. The PM is expected to manage the day-to-day operations of the Cuban government but will still report to the President.
