Nirbhaya convicts cannot be hanged on Jan 22, as mercy petition filed: Delhi govt to HC

The Delhi govt told the Delhi High Court that 2012 Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder convicts cannot be executed on Jan 22, since one of the convicts, Mukesh Singh has filed a mercy plea before President Ram Nath Kovind. Yesterday, the curative petition of Mukesh Singh and Vinay Sharma was rejected by Supreme Court's 5-judges panel.

Russia backs India to have a permanent seat in UN Security Council

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made a huge statement favoring India at the fifth edition of Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi. The Minister said that India should be a permanent member of the United Nation Security Council. He said the council should be reformed as the main problem with the council is the under-representation of developing countries. Scrapping of Article 370 from J&K- a historic step, says Army Chief MM Naravane

The Army Chief MM Naravane called the scrapping of Article 370, a historic step, which will help to integrate the J&K. Adding to his statement, Chief said that stripping off special status from the J&K has led to "disrupted proxy war by Western neighbor". Speaking about the Armed forces, the chief said India has zero-tolerance towards terrorism and it will not hesitate to counter to those who promote terrorism. 4 Nirbhaya case convicts broke prison rules 23 times, earned INR 1,37,000 as prison wages

According to sources, the 4 convicts in Nirbhaya gang rape case, whose execution is just a week away, earned nearly Rs 1,37,000 as prison wages during their stay in Delhi's Tihar Jail in the last seven years and broke prison rules 23 times during this period. While Vinay was punished 11 times for breaking rules in prison, Akshay was punished once, Mukesh broke rules thrice, and Pavan broke rules eight times.
