Centre forecasts 5% GDP in 2019-20, slowest in 11 years

The Government has predicted 5% GDP for the current financial year. This GDP is the slowest pace in 11 years. In 2018-19, GDP was 6.8%. It is expected that when the annual budget will be presented, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will opt for extra fiscal stimulus. An economist said that the government is expected to announce tax concessions for individuals and increase the expenses on infrastructure. Last week, Sitharaman announced that the government is planning to invest INR 102 lakh crore in infrastructure over the next five years to make India a $5 trillion economy by 2025. Delhi court issues death warrant to 4 guilty in Nirbhaya case, to be hanged on 22nd Jan

A Delhi Court released the death warrant for the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case of 2012. The hanging of the four convicts will take place on the 22nd of January at 7 AM. A review petition was filed by one of the four convicts against the death penalty given to him by the Supreme Court in its 2017 verdict but the victim’s mother challenged the plea and the Supreme Court rejected the review. Violent clash erupts between ABVP and NSUI activists in Gujarat's Ahmedabad

Today, in Gujarat's Ahmedabad district, a violent clash erupted between ABVP and NSUI activists. As per media reports, NSUI conducted a protest outside the ABVP office in which NSUI Gujarat General Secretary, Nikhil Sayani was injured. NSUI, on its Twitter handle, expressed that ABVP goons have brutally attacked students and NSUI activists for protesting against JNU violence.
