Govt to SC, ‘Migration has to be stopped’ amid COVID-19 scare

The central government recently told the Supreme Court that the exodus of migrant workers from the cities to their hometowns will have to be stopped to ensure that it does not aggravate the threat posed by the coronavirus disease. The petition filed by advocates Rashmi Bansal and Anuj Gupta cited the possibility that many of the migrant workers may have been infected by the virus and became carriers of the disease. Today, While addressing the nation with his radio show ‘Maan ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologize for the 21-days lockdown decision. He said it was a hard decision and underscored the need to enforce the restrictions. He said those who are violating lockdown are playing with their own life. Eight more positive coronavirus cases in Gujarat, total cases jump to 55

A senior health official has reported that the number of coronavirus patients in Gujarat rose to 55 with eight new cases coming to light on Saturday. Three were reported in Ahmedabad, two in Gandhinagar and one each in Vadodara, Mehsana and Gir Somnath districts. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that with the number of cases increasing, the government has decided to set up a 100-bed isolation hospital at every district headquarters. 38-year-old eating joint employee dies while walking home for 200 kms amid lockdown

Amid the nationwide lockdown over the coronavirus outbreak, a 38-year-old man who had walked 200 kilometres from Delhi to reach his home, died on the Delhi-Agra highway on Saturday morning. He was an employee at an eating joint. Two men, who were accompanying the man, told the police that he complained of chest pain before he collapsed.
