Mamata Banerjee on updated NRC list: The fiasco has exposed those who used it for political mileage

WB CM Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said that the whole National Register of Citizens (NRC) case in Assam has exposed those who tried to take political mileage out of it. The updated final NRC, which validates bonafide Indian citizens of Assam, was out on Saturday, with over 19 lakh applicants who failed to make it to the list having an uncertain future. Mamata Govt to introduce Bill against Mob Lynching in Bengal

The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government will present a bill in the Legislative Assembly against Mob Lynching in West Bengal. According to media reports, a senior TMC minister expressed that according to the proposed legislation, if anyone is found guilty of publishing, communicating and dispersing any offensive material either physically or electronically, will be at risk to imprisonment up to one year and a fine up to Rs 50,000. The minister further said that the bill aims to protect the constitutional rights of helpless people and avoid incidents of lynching.
