Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday made a pitch for a strong government at the centre and mocked the "helpless" dispensation of CM H D Kumaraswamy, who is heading the Congress-JDS coalition. Modi said the Congress wanted a "helpless" government and told the voters to look at the "helpless" Kumaraswamy. He also mocked the frequent emotional outbursts of Kumaraswamy, saying it was "natak" (drama).

"The Statue of Unity was not brought up with the intention of causing "disrespect" to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru" - Narendra Modi

News agency PTI quoted PM Modi saying Sardar Patel's statue was not to disrespect Nehru, also he asked his audience if they had googled "which is the tallest statue in the world and where is it situated?" Modi further said that it was a matter of pride for Gujarat to have the tallest statue of the world. The PM has been eloquent in praising Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and critical of Pandit Nehru over several issues including Kashmir.

PM Modi tweeted "Dear Citizen of India, Phase 2 of the Lok Sabha polls start today. I am sure all those whose seats are polling today will strengthen our democracy by exercising their franchise".
