Kerala implements mandatory helmets for pillion riders

The Kerala govt has implemented the directives of the High Court to make helmets compulsory for pillion riders. As per media reports, Police will conduct vehicle checks to ensure that two-wheeler riders comply with the new directives and if found without a helmet, INR 500 will be imposed against them. The reports added that in the initial phase, the police will warn the pillion riders to wear a helmet before the fine is levied. Kerala: Police arrest man who attacked Bindu Ammini with chilli pepper spray

A case against "Sreenath" who attacked Bindu Ammini, the woman who first entered the Sabrimala temple in January this year, has been registered and arrested in Kerala's Kochi city. Yesterday morning, Ammini was allegedly attacked with chilli pepper spray outside Ernakulam city police commissioner’s office. Kerala govt bans manufacturing, sale and storage of single-use plastic from Jan 1 2020.

Kerala Govt, chaired by CM Pinarayi Vijayan at a cabinet meeting yesterday, decided to ban the production, selling and processing of plastic single-use goods from 1 January 2020. The govt, in a release, stated that strict action will be taken against those who violate the Prohibited Act, 1986. As per the decision, plastic manufacturers, wholesalers and small sellers who violate the law can be fined INR 10,000 for the first time and INR 25,000 for violating the law again. Kerala Assembly passes Farmers Welfare Fund Bill

The Kerala Assembly passed the Farmers Welfare Fund Bill, which seeks to extend welfare measures to farmers in the state, including pensions and insurance. Minister of State Agriculture VS Sunil Kumar reported that after much discussion with various stakeholders, the Bill was passed in the Senate. Kumar further said that the Bill will be drawn up to ensure that all welfare programs give priority to small-scale marginal farmers and it is the first time such a welfare board has been set up to address the farmers' problem.
