Calcutta HC puts stay on deportation of a Rohingya couple on humanitarian grounds

The Calcutta HC has put a stay on the deportation of a Rohingya couple from India to Myanmar in the ‘spirit of humanity’. The HC said that the government should provide all the necessary amenities to the couple for them to live with dignity till a verdict is given in the writ petition filed by them to not be sent back to Myanmar ‘to face persecution’. 14 Indian fishermen arrested by Sri Lankan Navy for poaching in its territorial waters

According to the reports, around 14 Indian fishermen have been arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy and the trawlers used by them were also seized on December 28. The Sri Lankan Navy in its statement said that the fishermen were arrested for poaching in the territorial waters of Sri Lanka. The Navy will hand over the fishermen to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Jaffna after completing their medical examination.
