Ratan Tata awarded honorary doctorate by UK University for innovation & philanthropy

The University of Manchester in the UK has awarded an honorary doctorate to Tata Group Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata for his contribution to innovation and philanthropy. The UK university said the award was presented to the 82-year-old industrialist in Mumbai recently during the India tour of President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell. Rothwell said that Ratan is inspirational. For him, philanthropy and innovation are spokes of the same wheel, each leading towards the improvement of lives which is the very same ethos that is shared at the University of Manchester. Wuhan hospital Director dies after getting Infected by Coronavirus

According to media reports, a hospital director at the epicenter of China's Coronavirus Wuhan died on Tuesday. The report has stated that the director of Wuchang Hospital, Liu Zhiming died due as he was infected by the virus and died after all-out rescue efforts failed. He is the first known hospital director to have died from the Coronavirus. The death toll from China’s Coronavirus has climbed to 1,868 today as 98 more people died while the total number of confirmed cases has jumped to 72,436. Src: https://bit.ly/38BQ1ct

India, World Bank signs USD 450 million loan agreement to improve groundwater management

The Indian govt and the World Bank have signed a USD 450 million loan agreement to assist Atal Bhujal Yojana (ABHY), a national program for enhancing groundwater management to arrest the depleting groundwater levels in the country and improve groundwater institutions. The programme will be introduced and cover 78 districts in the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Haryana, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. According to an official release, these states have been selected based on several criteria including the degree of groundwater exploitation and degradation, established legal and regulatory instruments, institutional readiness and experience in implementing groundwater management initiatives. Bhuj hostel case: Court remands principal, others to 2-day police custody

A court in Gujarat's Kutch has sent four persons, including the Principal, coordinator, supervisor, and a lady peon of the Institute to two-days police custody regarding the incident at Shahajanand Girls Institute where girls were made to remove their underwear to check whether or not they were menstruating. Yesterday, the police arrested the accused and presented then in court. Earlier, the National Commission for Women (NCW) had stated that the trustee of the Institute will give a written commitment to abolish such a discriminatory practice. Src: https://bit.ly/38DYdZz
