Six died due to panic over NRC, will never allow it in Bengal: Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, while speaking at a Trade Union meeting, stated, "I am sad that 6 people have died in Bengal due to panic created over NRC. We will never allow NRC here. Please have faith in me". Banerjee further spoke on clashes at Jadavpur University, and added, "I believe protests are important in a democracy. The day protests lose their value, India will stop being India. Democracy still exists in Bengal while there is no democracy at a few places. We have seen what happened at Jadavpur University". Unique multi-purpose identity card is possibility: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while addressing a function to lay the foundation stone for a new building in New Delhi to house the Registrar General of India (RGI), stated that India could have a single multi-purpose unique card that will serve as an identity card and double up as a voter card, PAN, and even a passport. Shah further said, “We do not have the scheme to introduce a multi-purpose identity card but this a possibility.” As per media report, Amit Shah’s announcement of a multi-purpose identity card and many statements promising like Assam citizen list renew the possibility that the population register could be revived. The reports added that to enable a citizens register is already in place as the Citizenship Act empowers the Centre to compulsorily register every citizen and issue multi-purpose national identity cards. PM Narendra Modi, during an event 'Howdy, Modi!' at Houston, Texas, addressed 50,000 crowds of the Indian-Americans, and expressed, "Article 370 had deprived people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh of development. Terrorist and separatists elements were misusing the situation. Now after abrogation, people there have got equal rights". In the United States, Houston, during the mega event 'Howdy, Modi!', US President Donald Trump and PM Narendra Modi have been seen posing for a selfie with hands on each other's shoulders after a kid requested them. As per media reports, Trump, who was received by Modi, was also seen meeting a group of children who were dressed up in traditional attire. The reports further added that before the arrival of Modi and Trump to the event, the India-US cultural harmony was showcased by around 400 artists and community members from Texas in a well-versed performance. The main event was preceded by a 90 minutes long music, dance, and multimedia show by 27 groups performing seamlessly to showcase the diversity in the Indian-American community.
