Delhi HC refuses to stay death warrant against Nirbhaya’s culprits on Jan 22

Delhi government has filed a petition in which they have mentioned that four convicts of Nirbhaya rape and a murdered case cannot be hanged on January 22 as a mercy petition filed by one of the convicts Mukesh Singh is pending. However, the Delhi High Court rejected the plea to put a stay on a death warrant against the culprits. The High Court said that there is nothing wrong with the trial court’s order on the death warrant. The top court further said that the petitioner can approach the trial court. Assam man dies in detention centre, 29th death in 3 years

In Assam’s Goalpara, a 55-year-old man named Naresh Koch lost his life in a detention centre. Naresh was a daily wager and had been living in Assam for 35 years. But in 2018, he was declared a foreigner by a foreigner's tribunal after he failed to appear for 4 consecutive hearings.
