Nitish Kumar's JD(U) formally decides to join Modi Government.

Bihar's ruling JD(U) decided to join Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Centre. A senior JD(U) functionary who attended the meet said, "Our president Nitish Kumar will decide as to who will be the ministers from JD(U) in the Modi government". He further asked, "If Ram Villas Paswan's LJP, can get one cabinet berth with six members in the Lok Sabha, why JD(U), having 16 MPs in the LS and six in the Rajya Sabha, cannot get three berths?" Another decision taken by the party at the JD(U) national office-bearers meeting is to hold its national executive in Patna on June 9.

The Rajya Sabha secretariat said that the BJP president Amit Shah, Union Ministers Ravi Shankar, and Smriti Irani and DMK leader Kanimozhi have ceased to be the members of the Upper House of Parliament after elected to the Lok Sabha. The BJP will be using these three vacancies to bring in leaders like its ally LJP chief Ram Villas Paswan, to the Upper House. Similarly, the two seats which will fill vacant from Gujarat, after both Shah and Irani got elected to the Lok Sabha, may be used for accommodating those leaders who have lost the election but may be given berth in the Cabinet.
