Delhi HC orders life imprisonment to Ex-BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar in Unnao rape case; asks him to pay 10 lakh to victim

The Delhi Court sentences life imprisonment to the expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar, following his conviction in the 2017 Unnao rape case. The court has ordered him to deposit INR 25 lakh to the court within a month and INR 10 lakh from the amount will be given to the rape survivor. District Judge Dharmesh Sharma informed that the court did not find any mitigating circumstance to consider the lenient punishment plea of Sengar. The judge said that Sengar was a public servant and had betrayed people’s faith. On Monday, Sengar was convicted for rape under the POCSO Act and co-accused Shashi Singh was acquitted. Sensex, Nifty continue to break records, rise up to 41,809.96 & 12,293.90 respectively

The S&P BSE Sensex index today continued its record-breaking spree by rising up to 136.04 points to touch an all-time high of 41,809.96 and Nifty50 climbed to a record of 12,293.90, surpassing its earlier all-time high of 12,268.35 registered yesterday. The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 41,681.54-level, up 7.62 points. Tata Steel, YES Bank, SBI, and Hero MotoCorp were the top gainers at the 30-share index. Internet services in Assam resume, rights of Assamese people are safe, says CM Sonowal

Mobile Internet Services have been resumed in the eastern state of Assam resumed after 10 days after they were stopped due to the unrest amid the protests against the new Citizenship Act. CM Sarbananda Sonowal said that those who created unrest in the state will not be spared. He assured that the Assamese language, culture and the land will be protected and the rights of the people of the state are ‘safe’. Mangaluru hospital claims police barged inside and used tear gas

On 19th December, one of the employees from Highland hospital claimed that police fired tear gas shells in the hospital. Some protesters went to Highland hospital to protect themselves after police lathi-charged on them. Two CCTV footage has been surfaced from the hospital which shows that police were trying to open a door in a ward by kicking it down. In another video, few people can be seen coming outside to a passage and running towards the ICU, with their noses covered.
